The Michigan House has passed legislation to fight against distracted driving.

The House passed a bipartisan package of bills after hearing arguments for and against the legislation that makes changes to Michigan’s texting driving law. It bans the use of handheld devices behind the wheel, unless they are mounted to the vehicle, except in the case of an emergency. It also prohibits driving while accessing social media.

Drivers are instead encouraged to make use of the numerous hands free options. After passing by a nearly 3-1 margin the bills now head to the Michigan Senate.
