Dr. Don Westerhausen is running for St. Joseph County Commissioner.
Westerhausen formally announced his candidacy more than a week after Jason Critchlow ended his pursuit of the seat due to redistricting.
Westerhausen pulled no punches while announcing his campaign, stating Crtichlow’s home was redistricted out of the election.
He called it sad because he says local and county politics should be about cooperation in helping people, not extreme partisanship.

His party is the party of partisanship. To them, “cooperation” means our way or the highway. Why in the world would ANYONE assume he’d buck the party line?
He doesn’t even know what the government is for. It’s not about “helping people”, it’s about providing a stable framework for civilization. If Democrat Don wants to “help people”, he should start a charity.

Do you know Dr Westerhausen? As a physician do you know what he has done for our area in terms of cardiovascular health? What he has done for patients of this area is enough to tell you what he is like as a person. And trust me, he is not a go with the flow man. This man will fight to do what is right, I watched him do it for 20yrs with patients. He’s running because he cares about the people of this area. Please educate yourself on who he is and what he has done in this area and then make a decision about how he is going to play into the agenda.s
I’m sure he’s a great person. I’m also sure, from his own words (and his party affiliation), that he thinks government is a nurse and not a referee.
The government is not there to fix our problems, it’s not there for helping people, it’s not there for charity work. When we try to make it do those things, it always ends in disaster. That’s ok though, because that’s not what it’s intended to do. It does a fine job at keeping us from infringing on the rights of others, from endangering others, and it supports the framework of civilization (police, fire, roads, schools, etc) that we all use to pursue our dreams and live in safety.
I’ll bet you folding money that Don will not be able to resist the temptation to “do more”, even when that is not the right choice. And that’s ok, you can be a great person but a lousy representative.
