Shots fired call leaves two arrested in St. Joseph County

Two people have been arrested after shots fired call in St. Joseph County.

State Police were called around 12 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, to the 56000 block of Butternut Road where it was reported a man got out of a car and fired several rounds from a handgun while the car was parked in the driveway.

The trooper saw a car matching the description given by the homeowner, a maroon Toyota driven by a woman with a man riding as her passenger, near Mayflower Road and Filmore Road.

The trooper made a traffic stop on the vehicle with the assistance of officers with the St. Joseph County Police Department and the two occupants of the vehicle were detained.

During further investigation officers located a loaded Hi-Point .380 handgun,  a loaded .380 magazine, a loaded 9 mm magazine, a plastic bag containing 11 9mm rounds, a single loose 9mm round on the front passenger seat, and a pill bottle containing several pills identified as a controlled substances were all located in the car.  It was also discovered that a toddler was in the back seat.

Additional shell casings were found in the driveway of the home.  The residence did not appear to have been struck and the homeowner was not injured.

The front seat passenger, James Gary, 40 of South Bend, was arrested for being a felon in possession of a handgun, criminal recklessness with a handgun, felony intimidation, and possession of a handgun without a permit.

The driver, Aimee Wilson-Nixa, 26 of South Bend, was arrested for possession of a legend drug, possession of a schedule II and IV controlled substance, and possession of a handgun without a permit.

The toddler was released to a relative.
