Multiple fire crews responded to a fire at a liquor store in downtown New Carlisle Thursday afternoon.

The blaze broke out around 3 p.m. at John’s Package Liquor on US-20, where it’s called West Michigan Street.

School buses from New Prairie United were rerouted to avoid the area while crews fought the fire, which closed the highway to the LaPorte County Line.

Departments from both LaPorte and St. Joseph Counties, as well as nearby departments in Michigan, fought the fire. There was no immediate word of any injuries, or the cause of the blaze.
