Governor Whitmer says it’s time to get serious about expanding paid leave for parents in Michigan.
In a personal thread on her Twitter account, Governor Whitmer spoke about caring for her mother at the end of her life, and for her daughter at the beginning of hers.
She said she understands on a personal level how important it is to have time with a new baby or take care of your family, and says all parents in the state should be able to take that time without fear of losing their paycheck.
Whitmer noted that making paid leave a reality two years ago was an important first step, but now the state government should work together to extend the policy to every parent in Michigan.
It’s been about two years since we made paid leave a reality for thousands of working families. This was a first step. A commonsense, family-first priority for us to enact. These conversations bring me back to one of the toughest times in my own life: (a thread)

“Vote for me, I gave you free stuff!”
Who cares how many businesses are wiped out by the additional expense, as long as Gretch gets her captive voter base…
Apparently, not ever business has taken the hint that they are not welcomed in Michigan by the Whither administration. This additional business burden is to drive home that point.
