Sen. Braun criticized for comments about interracial marriage laws

(provided by his Senate office)

Senator Mike Braun is facing criticism after a comment this week regarding interracial marriage.

It was a comment he has since walked back, made while speaking with reporters on Tuesday. He said that he would be okay with leaving the question of interracial marriage to the states.

Braun said the 1967 interracial marriage ruling should have been left up to the states, not the federal government.

Tuesday night he issued a statement saying he misunderstood the line of questioning, adding that he condemns racism in any form.

The Indiana Democratic Party was quick to call his words and views un-American, and “beneath any respectable person wishing to hold public office.”

Senator Braun is correct as to where inter racial marriage laws should be. There is no provision whatsoever in the Article I, Section 8–the enumerated powers of Congress. In fact, over 80% of what Congress spends our money on is not found in that list or anywhere else in the US Constitution, Amended.
