Man sentenced after entering plea for rash of hit-and-run collisions

A man involved in multiple hit and run crashes, including four police vehicles, has been sentenced to nearly six years in community corrections after pleading guilty to resisting law enforcement and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.

One charge of possession of meth and three counts of leaving the scene of a crash were dismissed as part of Justin Burnett’s plea deal.

It was back in 2020 when Elkhart Police were called to a hit and run collision with injuries.

While responding, an officer spotted a Burnett speeding off and running a stop sign.

A chase ensued and investigators say Burnett backed into the squad car while trying to get away.

The pursuit continued and, by the time it ended, ABC 57 News reports several more vehicles, including three additional squad cars, were damaged.
