South Bend Police foot chase ends when burglary suspect trips and falls

A burglary suspect who took off from police was arrested after he tripped while taking off on foot.

Officers were called around 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, to investigate a burglary alarm at a business in the 400 block of W. Ewing.

On scene, the officers found damage to the building. The owner showed police a screenshot from surveillance video of the suspect inside the business.

A bit later, one of the officers spotted a man in a nearby alley who matched the appearance of the suspect. The man took off on a bike.

A second officer spotted the suspect running down an alley and between houses a short time later and took off after him.

During the foot chase, the suspect dropped a a bag that contained merchandise taken from the business and when the suspect tripped and fell, the chase came to an end.

The suspect was transported to the St. Joseph County Jail, where he awaited formal charges.
