St. Joseph County has released the results of their tornado siren tests, and with the public’s help they’ve discovered a few that weren’t working.

Emergency Management asked the public to participate, and after nearly 300 phone calls the county determined that ten percent of the sirens were no longer working. The final tally was 6 bad sirens out of 67.

The good news is that the sirens affected are all in overlap areas, which means residents affected by those sirens live within earshot of another one, which is working. Due to supply chain issues, most of the non-functional sirens need parts that could take a month or more to repair.
