The City of Elkhart settled a case pay out $7.5 million to Keith Cooper.

Cooper was arrested for robbery and sentenced to 40 years in 1996.

Cooper served 8 years until he was released after new evidence came to light including claims of witness manipulation by officers involved, and even the victim requesting a pardon for Cooper.

Governor Holcomb granted that pardon for Cooper, clearing his name of the crime in 2017.

Cooper sued Elkhart and the officers and the 7 and a half million dollar settlement is the largest in Indiana for wrongful conviction.
