Indiana educators may soon introduce a civics course for sixth graders.

The new class would give middle school students a semester of civics before they start high school. The education standards were discussed during a public meeting on Tuesday, according to WVPE.

The commission drafted standards aimed at the foundations and function of government, and the role of citizens. The State Board of Education is expected to vote on the civics requirement in June.
