St. Joseph County 911 has an important message to pass along for anyone needing emergency service.
They say they’ve received a few complaints from our citizens about them calling 911 and no one answering.
They say they’ve been investigating this since the first report, but say the problem is not happening on a regular basis.
They currently have all the vendors of their 911 phone technology working on the problem and any potential solutions.
They say if you call 911 and do not get an answer, to hang up and call back immediately. Also they ask that you also let the dispatcher know that you tried to call and that nobody answered.
911 leaders are hopeful that the more information they get about dates and times of people trying to call 911 without getting an answer, the more quickly they can find and fix the issue.

The process when we receive a 911 Hangul is to call back. If no one answers on the call back, we text. This is in case you’re in an emergency situation where it may be unsafe for you to answer the phone. Also, you’d be surprised at the number of pocket dials, misdials, and other accidental calls we receive. While we assume there is an emergency when someone calls 911, not all 911 calls are actual emergencies or even intentional calls. So to answer your question “Why would I call I there wasn’t an emergency?”, we reach out and ask because sometimes people mistakenly call. Either way we want to make sure you’re ok.
