Elkhart Police warning about counterfeit money

Elkhart Police are warning about counterfeit money making the rounds.

Officers have received reports from local merchants regarding fake $100 bills. The bills say “For Motion Picture Use Only” at the top, and all have the same serial number.

In most of the reports, the cashier or employees have noticed that the bill is fake before completing the transaction. So, police officers are warning store owners and customers, alike, to be on the lookout for the fake bills, which appear to be movie props and can be bought online.

If you have been a victim, or have information regarding the use of these fake bills, you can call the Elkhart Police Department at 574-295-7070.

The public can also leave a tip by emailing tips@elkhartpolice.org.
