Man sentenced for his role in 2020 killing of Alan Diaz in South Bend

It’s 55 years in prison for an Elkhart man found guilty of murder for his role in the March 2020 murder of Alan Diaz, 19, of South Bend.

Oliver Bwalya, 23, is one of four men accused in Diaz’s shooting death, which took place in the 16-hundred block of North Elmer Street.

On June 2, Oluwatomipe Makanjuola, 21, of Columbus, Ohio, pled guilty to Murder
for his role in the death of Diaz. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 13, 2022, at 9
a.m.

James Birtcher III, 21, of Columbus, Ohio; and Adonis Harris, 19, of Columbus, Ohio,
were also charged with Murder in relation to Diaz’s death, and their cases remain pending.
