The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating an inmate’s death.
It was during a routine check, early Sunday morning, June 19, when Curtis Heaphy, 65, was found unresponsive inside his cell.
Staffers began to render aid and resuscitation efforts.
Members of the La Porte County Emergency Medical Services arrived and transported Heaphy to Northwest Health in LaPorte, but Heaphy died.
He’d been in the jail since his arrest last Thursday afternoon on intimidation and invasion of privacy charges.
