Michiana has its first confirmed case of Monkeypox.

The Elkhart County Health Department is reporting one confirmed case, and one probable case. There are less than 20 cases between Michigan and Indiana.

The Berrien County Health Officer told WSBT the virus presents as a pimple-like rash that will pop up wherever contact with the infection has occurred.

Monkeypox is not considered a deadly illness, but health officials ask those who are infected to get tested, isolate, and wear a mask to fight its spread.
