Several people were seriously injured in a crash on I-80 early Monday morning.

Indiana State Police say it happened around 2 AM when an SUV tried to pass a semi improperly and hit a guardrail head-on.

The driver, a 25 year-old Illinois woman, was thrown from the vehicle. A passenger in the front was trapped in the vehicle, and two in the back were able to get out.

Those who were injured were taken to a hospital in “potentially life-threatening condition.”

State Police say drugs and/or alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
