Boy, 13, taken into custody after Elkhart boy, 15, was shot

The Elkhart Police Department has taken a juvenile into custody in connection with an investigation into the shooting of another juvenile.

It was just after 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8, when 911 dispatch received a call of a shooting with injuries in the 1800 block of Canton Street.

Elkhart Police Department officers dispatched and arrived shortly thereafter. A 15 year old boy was found with an apparent gunshot wound. First aid was rendered at the scene, and the teen was taken to the hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

During the investigation, a 13 year old boy was located and taken into custody in connection with the incident.

He is currently detained at the Juvenile Detention Center, and this matter will be forwarded to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office.
