Former LaPorte County official arrested after allegedly breaking into home

A former LaPorte County councilman, county coroner and firefighter has been arrested after police say he broke into a home and performed a sex act.

Officers were called around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, to the home in rural Noble Township in regard to a burglary in progress. On arrival, officers were told were advised a man, identified as John P. Sullivan, 62, of Wanatah, was observed on video surveillance entering the bedroom of the homeowner. As deputies continued to respond, information was relayed that Sullivan was observed on the video surveillance footage performing a sexual act.

As officers arrived, a a vehicle was observed traveling in reverse in the driveway. A vehicle stop was initiated and Sullivan was identified as the driver.

He was taken into custody on residential entry and malicious mischief charges.

Sullivan remains housed in the LaPorte County Jail a $755 cash-only bond through Circuit Court.
