Notre Dame men’s basketball head coach Mike Brey will retire at the end of the basketball season.

Brey is in the midst of his 23rd season with the Irish and will leave at the end of the year.

Brey planned to tell the team after their Thursday afternoon practice.

Brey saw more wins than any other coach. He brought the team to the NCAA Tournament 13 times at his career in Notre Dame. As Brey thanked his team during the announcement, saying it’s time for a new voice to lead the team.

Brey issued a Tweet, stating, in part: I’ll leave @NotreDame with gratitude to the University and I’m proud of all we’ve accomplished together. Thanks to our student-athletes, coaches & staff who’ve played a key role in our culture.”
