Fourth Wrong Way Detection and Alert device place on Indiana Toll Road

The Indiana Toll Road is expanding a safety feature.

The ITR Concession Company LLC, which manages the Indiana Toll Road, has activated the fourth installation of their Wrong Way Driver detection and alert system.

The Wrong-Way Driver detection system tracks wrong-way drivers, lets them correct themselves, and warns other drivers.

Th fourth detection system is located on the Calumet Avenue eastbound off-ramp at mile marker 5.

In 2022, 95 drivers were alerted that they were going the wrong way onto the toll road.

Since its start in 2020, there has been a 75% decrease in drivers going the incorrect direction.

The Toll Road has four detection systems, in all. They are located on Exit 56 Eastbound on Interstate 80, at the Rolling Prairie Travel Plaza. On Exit 83 Eastbound at the Capital Avenue off-ramp in Mishawaka. On Exit 83 Westbound at the Capital Avenue off-ramp in Mishawaka. On Exit 5 Eastbound at the Calumet Avenue Eastbound off-ramp.
