Driving under the influence led to the death of a pedestrian near Notre Dame.

It happened on Sept. 10, 2022, when South Bend Police were called to a crash at Eddy Street and Corby Blvd.

Witnesses say that the pedestrian, Thomas Keyser, was crossing Eddy Street at the crosswalk, when he was hit by the vehicle driven by 33-year-old Donald Culpepper.

ABC 57 News reports that as Keyser was crossing the street, Culpepper was trying to make a left-hand turn from Corby onto Eddy, as the light turned from green to yellow.

Officials say that Keyser does a week later, from blunt force head trauma.

A blood test determined that Culpepper had meth and THC in his system.

Culpepper was charged on Jan. 23 with causing death when operating a motor vehicle with a schedule I or II controlled substance.
