MI Supreme Court Justice taking time off for mental health treatment

(95.3 MNC)

A Michigan Supreme Court Justice is taking some time off for some mental health treatment.

Justice Richard Bernstein announced on Tuesday that he’s seeking short-term treatment out-of-state, and will work remotely when he can.

Bridge Michigan reports that he will, however, miss upcoming oral arguments. Chief Justice Beth Clement has asked Michiganders to respect his privacy while he focuses on his well-being. Bernstein did not specify what type of mental health issues he is facing, or how long he might be out of the state for the treatment.

Bernstein, a Democratic Party nominee, was first elected to the Michigan Supreme Court in 2014 and was re-elected last year.
