Indiana firefighters are opposing House Bill 1575, which would change the voting structure of the Indiana Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission, making it more difficult to pass regulations.
The bill would also increase the number of commission members from 11 to 12, with six members representing special interest groups.
Opponents believe this would allow these groups to control the two-thirds majority required for regulation approval, potentially preventing updates to safety codes and leading to more house fires.
