The City of South Bend’s Fire Department plans to rebuild Fire Station 8, which is located in the 2400 block of South Twyckenham Drive.

The new station will accommodate both male and female firefighters.

It will also include safety systems to ensure cancerous contaminants from the apparatus bay and firefighters’ gear do not enter the quarters where firefighters live during their 24-hour shifts.

The current station was built in 1957.

City officials will present information on the new station design and construction timeline on Thursday, May 4.
