Dowagiac man heading to jail, possession of loaded firearm

A Dowagiac man is heading to jail after being sentenced in Cass County Circuit Court on Friday, June 9.

27-year-old Evan Buck was arrested last June for possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle.

The incident happened in June of 2022 at the intersection of Pokagon and Cherry Streets in Dowagiac.

Leader Publications reports that police found Buck asleep behind the wheel of his car with a gun in the seat next to him.

Officials searched the vehicle and found marijuana as well as a scale.

Buck pleaded guilty to possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle. He was sentenced to 365 days in jail,  $2,048 in fines and costs, and forfeiture of the firearm.
