Former Vice President and Indiana Governor Mike Pence says he “can’t defend” former President Trump against the accusations that he mishandled classified documents.
In an interview with CNBC Wednesday, Pence called the charges against Trump “very serious,” but also acknowledged that politics may have played a role in the decision by the federal government to indict Trump on 37 felony counts. He pled not guilty.
“None of that changes the fact, though, that the handling of classified documents is a very serious matter. The former President does have a right, however, to his day in court,” said Pence.
Investigators have said the information on the documents found at Trump’s home in Mar-a-Lago included U.S. nuclear programs and defense and weapons capabilities.
“The very prospect that what is alleged here took place, creating an opportunity where highly sensitive classified material could have fallen into the wrong hands, even inadvertently, jeopardizes our national security. It could really harm our armed forces,” said Pence.
But as it pertains to how the Department of Justice conducts these kinds of investigations, Pence did acknowledge that changes need to be made.
“If I have the privilege to be president of the United States, we’re going to clean house at the Department of Justice. We’re going to find men and women who are universally respected by both political parties, and we’re going to restore public confidence and equal treatment under the law,” said Pence.
Pence has entered the 2024 Republican Primary race for President and every poll shows Trump having a significant lead.

Mike Pence is turning into a career backstabbing RINO. I’m surprised how he underestimates the American public. We will not vote for him as presidents in the primary. If he gets 2% of the vote he’ll be lucky. Mike Pence, get a job on CNN you’ll make more money.
I would take all this blathering about “national security” more seriously if people’s security clearances were actually getting revoked when they left their government posts. When former Senators/VP and Secretaries of State still have their clearance once they have moved to a civilian post, worrying about some dated documents in a secured room just seems a little silly.
Mike Pence will go nowhere in the next election. He has outlived his sell by date. While the world collapses around our ears mainly pushed by Marxicrats and Rinos, Pence signs on as a RINO. What a doofus! No vote from me for Pence. It is very likely those supposedly secret documents were planted or are far outdated and useless as secretes anymore. Bongino who served in the Secret Service says presidential motorcade routs are classified right up until the route is traveled. After that everyone knows that the rout was. Most of what is deemed classified is done so to CYA some government stooge that doesn’t want to be held accountable. The recent flap over an FBI document that was not classified yet redacted and kept from congress is a case in point. The fibies made the congressmen, that’s you and me, view the document in a SCIF so they could not take notes, make copies, or take photographs of the document that is not classified in any way. What are they hiding?????
