Man accused in Baroda Township deadly shooting found dead in jail cell

The Stevensville man charged with open murder after police say he shot a woman in Baroda Township has died.

David Lee Mabry, 60, of Stevensville was found unresponsive in his cell just after noon on Tuesday.

Life-saving measures were taken by jail staff and medics, but were unsuccessful.

According to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, Mabry had previous medical conditions and there were no apparent signs of trauma.

Mabry was arraigned Monday and charged with open murder and felony firearm in the shooting death of the 57 year-old woman who we’ve learned was his stepmother.

The victim was shot on her back patio, allegedly at the hands of Mabry, on Sunday.
