A LaPorte County industrial facility caught fire on Monday evening.

Glycerin Traders and Processors, a plant in Stillwell that recycles expired bottles of hand sanitizer, caught fire around 5 p.m.

Pleasant Township Fire Chief Kevin Bluhm said it is believed that a conveyor belt malfunctioned and created sparks that came into contact with a flammable liquid.

An automatic sprinkler system helped keep the flames contained to one part of the building.

Around 30 workers made it out safely, but firefighters from multiple agencies were at the scene putting out the flames until around 10 p.m.

Two firefighters reportedly suffered minor burns while another suffered minor smoke inhalation.
