Recently released 2022 crash data by the Michigan State Police reveals a marginal 1% decrease in traffic fatalities compared to 2021. While this represents a slight improvement, it falls short of being significant, considering the 15% increase in fatalities observed from 2018 to 2022.

Data from last year’s crashes highlights some concerning trends. Bicycle fatalities saw a substantial rise of nearly 25% compared to 2021. Additionally, there was a significant 28% surge in construction zone crashes, with a corresponding 15% increase in fatalities within those work zones.

However, amidst these concerning figures, there are a few positive findings. The report indicates a noteworthy 10% reduction in alcohol-related deaths, a promising 34% drop in teen traffic fatalities, and a 5% decrease in pedestrian fatalities.
