Flame from smoking materials ignite home on Kelsey Avenue in Elkhart

An open flame from smoking materials is said to have caused a fire at a home in Elkhart.

Crews were called just after 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, to the 3200 block of Kelsey Avenue.

Crews arrived to find the occupants and animals out of the home.

Due to smoke and heat damage, the American Red Cross was contacted and able to provide help for the occupants.

Fire crews also helped the occupants retrieve some personal items prior to clearing the scene.

The blaze has been deemed accidental.
