The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is investigating after a teenage boy was shot and killed on the city’s west side.
It was around 1 a.m. on Monday, July 10, when officers were investigating reports of shots fired in the 400 block of S. Carlisle Street and located Luis Hernandez-Acosta, 16, who they say was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Hernandez-Acosta was taken to the hospital and died.
The South Bend Community School Corporation says the victim was a sophomore at Washington High School.
So far, there is no information to share about any possible suspects.

Nothing good happens after midnight, which should be rewritten to nothing good happens after 10 pm.
We should be able to live in a place where 16 year old children aren’t shot and killed. That didn’t happen where I lived growing up.
We should, but when people get elected into office by excusing the actions of protected classes in exchange for votes the inevitable outcome is exactly what we are seeing.
Placing the blame where it belongs is political suicide, it’s much safer to just blame the gun, or “systemic racism”, or “inequality”. Until people start being held accountable, this is only going to get worse…
