The Elkhart County Health Department has been notified by the state Department of Health that mosquitoes collected in the county positive for West Nile Virus.
The mosquitoes were tested right after the Fourth of July. The virus tends to be higher in the late summer and early fall, so the potential exists for individuals to be impacted soon.
Mosquitoes are most active in the evening and pre-dawn hours, so you’re, once again, advised to cover your skin, wear repellent or avoid being outdoors during those times. Mosquitoes collected from central South Bend have also tested positive for the virus.
