Elkhart Police Department warns of phone scam in area

elkhartpolice.org

Elkhart police are warning of a phone scam in the area.

They say individuals are pretending to be law enforcement employees and are calling those in the area about alleged “warrants” or fines.

Some residents are being told to put money on gift cards or to pay scammers through apps in order to have the warrants or fines resolved.

The department says they will never call to request money or gift cards in order to have a warrant removed.

Even if the phone call appears with a local number or even the department’s number, hang up.
