An Elkhart Police detective accused of improperly handling investigatory information, has lost her job.
The Elkhart Police Merit Commission voted 4-to-1 to find that Joy Phillips committed the offenses she was accused of.
They also voted, unanimously to terminate her. The decisions come after a three-day hearing into the accusations.
Elkhart’s Police Chief released a statement, saying the commission’s decision best reflects the evidence that was presented during the hearing.
Elkhart’s Mayor also responded, saying, though they never want anyone to lose their job, they understand that this outcome is a possibility when a commitment to unparalleled service is the goal.
