It’s going to be easier for some South Bend restaurants to get a liquor license.
That’s if they are within 3,000 feet of the river.
The South Bend Common Council approved two ordinance that will allow restaurants to get a three way liquor license for only $2,000 a year.
The South Bend Tribune reports that the license usually costs about $60,000 up front and $1,000 annually.
The discount is to help small restaurants to boost sales with cocktails and spirits. It’s expected to double the size of the districts near the St. Joseph River.
The program has existed since 2012, but was only for businesses within 1,500 feet of the river.
