Resolution to create new school district to help save Clay High School passes

(Tommie Lee/MNC)

St. Joseph County Council members have voted in favor, 5-4, of a resolution to create a new school district within the county.

Clay High School is on the chopping block as the school district looks to cut costs and consolidate students into it’s remaining three highs schools.

A resolution by St. Joseph County Councilors asks that the Indiana Secretary of Education intervene and help create a separate South Bend School district.

The goal of the resolution is to keep Clay High School open.

ABC 57 News reports South Bend Schools calls the resolution a “distraction” and “unrealistic.”

The people who live in these northern St. Joseph County Townships should have a separate school system. South Bend Community School Corporation has failed miserably on all levels.
