‘Murder for hire’ investigation results in arrest

LaPorte County Jail

A “Murder for Hire” investigation led a LaPorte County Jail inmate to even more trouble this week.

The LaPorte County Drug Task Force worked alongside agents with the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms Chicago Field Division to arrest 45-year-old Daniel Shaffer.

Over the last few weeks, authorities conducted an investigation into Shaffer who was soliciting the murder of two LaPorte residents.

Shaffer met with a LCDTF detective and an ATF agent multiple times during the investigation as they acted in an undercover capacity.

During those meetings, they were able to verify Shaffer’s intent as well as collect evidence that led to his arrest.

He was arrested on two counts of Attempted Murder and two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Murder, and his bond was set at $100,000.

Shaffer remains locked up in the LaPorte County Jail.
