The bench trial for a man facing charges of attempted murder, attempted battery with a firearm, and criminal recklessness with firearm enhancement in connection with a 2022 shooting, took place on Friday, Oct. 6.
The State of Indiana presented four witnesses, including the suspect, Ian Austin, himself.
Throughout the trial, the primary focus of the defense was to establish that Austin did not have the intent to cause a fatality with the shots he discharged.
The defense aimed to have all charges dropped, with the exception of the criminal recklessness charge.
There was no verdict immediately issued by the judge, who stated that a decision would be reached within 30 days.
