UPDATE: Rep. Tom Emmer dropped out of the House Speaker contender vote, hours after becoming the latest GOP pick for speaker. His decision to leave happened when it became clear that he could not attract a majority vote on the full House floor.

ORIGINAL STORY: Third District Republican Congressman Jim Banks said that he’s “supported every Republican nominee to be Speaker of the House so far,” but he will not vote for Tom Emmer on the House floor.

Banks said “they are holding our conference hostage and pushing Republicans to betray our voters and abandon our promises to the American people. I won’t go along with it.”

Read his entire statement below:

“House Republicans need to get back to work so we can fight the Biden administration’s radical woke agenda, secure the border, stand with Israel, and cut wasteful spending. First, we need to elect a Speaker who is committed to that conservative agenda.

I’ve supported every Republican nominee to be Speaker of the House so far, but I will not vote for Tom Emmer on the House floor.

The left-flank of our conference blocked Speaker-designee Jim Jordan then nominated the single most liberal member of leadership to continue business as usual in Washington. They are holding our conference hostage and pushing Republicans to betray our voters and abandon our promises to the American people. I won’t go along with it.”

Emmer is really a democrat. he wanted to eliminate the Electoral College that gives Indiana some power when it comes to electing a president. That is a very bad ideal Good riddance as a speaker candidate. The USA is a REPUBLIC not a mobocracy., which is what our founders called a democracy as a form of government.
