Cass County man found guilty of raping his home healthcare worker

A Dowagiac-area man has been found guilty of criminal sexual conduct for the rape of his home healthcare worker.

It took the jury just an hour to convict 58-year-old Robert Schmeltz. It was August of last year when the victim was working in Schmeltz’s home when, according to statements made in court, he became physically aggressive and raped her.

ABC 57 News reports Schmeltz testified that his actions toward the victim were consensual and that, on the day of the crime, the victim was dressed provocatively.
