Chicago Cubs hire new manager with South Bend roots

The Chicago Cubs have hired longtime Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell to be their next manager.

Counsell, who was born in South Bend and played his college ball at Notre Dame before graduating in 1992, won two World Series as a player with the Marlins and Diamondbacks.

He’ll be the highest-paid manager in the league, with the 5-year Cubs deal reportedly worth $40 million.
