Honda has issued a recall for more than 300,000 vehicles due to defective seat belts.

The automaker filed a notice with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stating that some front seat belts in the 2023-2024 Accords and HR-Vs have missing pretensioner rivets.

A pre-tensioner is a crucial seat belt component that tightens it in place during an accident, preventing the seat occupant from being thrown forward.

Defective pretensioners increase the risk of injury in a collision, as mentioned in the notice issued by Honda.

The NHTSA highlights that wearing a seat belt in a passenger car reduces the likelihood of death by 45% and the risk of moderate and critical injury by 50%.
