The Federal Railroad Administration is giving the Indiana Department of Transportation $500,000 to study the planned Indianapolis to Chicago rail corridor.
The research comes alongside the planned expansion to add a high-speed route between the two cities. Up until 2019, Amtrak used to run daily service between Indianapolis and Chicago, they now have limited round trip routes per week.
The money is planned to be used by INDOT to plan improvements to the tracks and facilities, and to analyze operating costs as well as ridership statistics.
