The cantaloupe-associated salmonella outbreak that claimed lives has officially concluded, according to federal health authorities.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced the conclusion on Friday, revealing a total of six deaths, 407 reported illnesses, and 158 hospitalizations across 44 states, including Indiana.
The reported illnesses spanned from October 15, 2023, to December 25, 2023.
The CDC noted that the actual number of affected individuals is likely higher than reported, as some may not have sought medical attention or undergone salmonella testing.
