South Bend man struck, killed by train in Mishawaka

A South Bend man was struck and killed by a train.

The collision happened just before 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at the West Street Crossing, according to Mishawaka Police.

The preliminary findings indicate that the train conductor saw a man walking close to the tracks and tried to alert him by sounding the train’s horn several times, but was unsuccessful.

The body of the 43-year-old man was discovered near the tracks afterward.

Mishawaka Police detectives are asking anybody who witnessed the incident to call them at 574-258-1684.
