One woman dead after pedestrian-train collision

(Jon Zimney/95.3 MNC)

Another collision between a train and a pedestrian left one woman dead Wednesday night.

The collision happened less than 24 hours after a South Bend man was killed by a train in Mishawaka.

Around 11:38 p.m., deputies were called to the Canadian National Railroad Crossing on State Road 39 in Noble Township.

Authorities say a Canadian National Freight Train was headed eastbound and that the two-person crew exhausted all options to stop the train.

However, the freight train collided with the pedestrian west of the State Road 39 crossing.

51-year-old Ronda Fennell of Lafayette was pronounced dead at the scene.
