Family pet killed in Elkhart house fire

(Bill Beck/Elkhart Truth)

There were no human injuries, but a family pet died in a fire in Elkhart.

Crews were called around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, to the 100 block of Park Avenue.

On arrival they found heavy fire and smoke coming from the ground floor of the two-story home. One person who was in the home had already gotten out.

Crews found the pet in a cage.

It appeared the animal died from smoke inhalation. So far, there is no word about the cause of the fire.
