A South Bend woman died and another was injured in a crash on U.S. 20 in LaPorte County.

The collision happened just before 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 12,  at U.S. 20 and Wilheim Road.

LaPorte County Sheriff’s deputies say a 2008 Chevrolet passenger vehicle was traveling westbound when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle veered to the right, and went off the roadway and collided with a tree.

The 40-year-old South Bend woman driving the car suffered an upper body injury and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Her passenger, Kendra Murphy, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Factors that led to the crash are still being investigated.
