Police: Distracted driving leads to crash on County Road 9 near Elkhart

Distracted driving led to a crash on County Road 9 near Elkhart, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision happened around 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb 17, south of County Road 6, when a 30-year-old Elkhart woman was traveling northbound and left the V1 left the east side of the roadway and struck an AEP utility pole, continued off the roadway and struck another AEP utility pole causing two other AEP utility poles to fall across the roadway.

The woman’s Dodge Avenger came to a stop in a  front yard in the 53000 block of County Road 9, pinned underneath an AEP utility pole.

The woman was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was cited for distracted driving.
